1. Most importantly, it should evoke the city or country you travelled to, choose a souvenir with an emotional attachment for you, that reminds you of the most special moment of your trip when you look at it.

2. Think about usability! If it has some use apart from mere decoration or you can carry it around, so much the better, as you will be able to see it more often.

3. Avoid airports, the prices of souvenirs are usually much more inflated than in any shop located in the city itself.

4. Match it to get it right! If the souvenir is not for you, always ask yourself if you would want to have it. You have to think that the person has not been with you on your trip and the object may have a great meaning for you but it doesn't have to have a great meaning for the other person.
